Project organisation.

While the projects that I supervise are all individual they share certain characteristics - particulary the general domain (of computer vision) and the common platform (for image processing).

Because of this, for final year projects only (so far!), I run my projects in a type of team environment where team members can provide each other with mutual assistance (in terms of dealing with development problems). This also gives good experience working in a real team environment (which is something you can talk about in interviews!!). The entire team meets together once a week or once every two weeks depending on the time of year.

  • Environment: Windows XP workstations using Visual Studio .NET.
  • Language: C++.
  • System: OpenCV freeware package from Intel. The sources are available freely on Source Forge. I am using the beta5 release. Alternatively the TIPS (Trinity Image Processing System) which is used for teaching computer vision can be used.

Resources.

Some electronic resources for my projects are available here

Evaluation.

The weights used for all my final year projects when they are being assessed are:
  • Introduction/Background (10%)
  • Technical Content/Project Execution (65%)
  • Conclusion (15%)
  • Presentation (10%)
