Research Projects

    I am member of the ARTIVVIS: Real-time Time Variant Visualisation project (SFI Investigators Programme 2013, 2014-2018) [URL]) which addresses the problem of real-time interactive visualisation of scientific data, namely time-varying volumetric datasets.

Current Research

    My current research aims to find solutions to the problem of automatic modelling of large and complex time-varying phenomena. Given observations (time-steps) of a complex time-varying phenomenon, how can we approximate such phenomenon on the fly? Speaking of approximation, we mean decomposing these multi-dimensional time-steps into few simple and meaningful patterns that correspond to the leading behaviour of the system. This is challenging from the following two perspectives. Firstly, there is no automatic process of finding a suitable mathematical model for describing a given phenomenon. To date, such a skill can only be gained by practice. The second challenge concerns the computational complexity of such automatic approach.
