This position, under the direction of Prof. Siobhán Clarke, is funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) under the Principal Investigator programme and will be hosted at the Distributed Systems Group, based in Trinity College Dublin. Established in 1981, the Distributed Systems Group (DSG) is the longest standing research group in the School of Computer Science and Statistics at Trinity College Dublin. DSG conducts basic and applied research into all aspects of distributed computing extending from the theoretical foundations underpinning the field to system engineering issues. Our expertise is in the areas of middleware, ubiquitous computing, mobile computing and software engineering. In addition, DSG leads Future Cities, the Trinity Centre for Smart and Sustainable Cities

An experienced postdoctoral researcher position is available to investigate the provision of a new service-oriented computing infrastructure that provides demand-based composition of software services interacting with a city-wide, dynamic network infrastructure, including the Internet of Things. The project will investigate autonomic adaptation of services and infrastructure, ensuring resilient service provision within an integrated, city-wide system. The position will be hosted at the Distributed Systems Group, based in Trinity College Dublin. The position will be filled with a junior or senior post-doctoral researcher, depending on the candidate’s experience. The successful candidate will join a team of highly skilled and innovative researchers in the area of adaptive and autonomous systems.

Standard Duties and Responsibilities of the Post
•    Investigate the challenges for adaptive service-oriented computing for the Internet of Things;
•    Collaborate with other academic and industry partners;
•    Mentoring of PhD students.

Person Specification

Qualifications
•    The candidate must have a Ph.D. in the area of Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a track record of research in adaptive, autonomous systems. The candidate must be an independent researcher willing to take a leadership role in the Distributed Systems Group.

Knowledge & Experience (Essential & Desirable)
Essential:
•    3+ years experience in design and development of adaptive and autonomous systems.
•    Good working knowledge of software programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, Matlab)
•    Solid written and oral communications skills;
•    It is expected that applicants will have:

Established track record of publication in leading journals/conferences, on topics such as networking, edge computing, vehicular networks;


Proven experience in mentoring junior researchers, such as Ph.D. students.
Desirable:


Experience with protocols and architectures for services-oriented computing and/or multi-agent systems;

Skills & Competencies


•    The ideal candidate will have a background in the development of architecture and software for adaptive, autonomous systems.
