Job title: Software Engineering Internship

Location: London, UK

Salary: £38,000 pro rata

Closing date for applications: 22 October 2021

Length: 9 months (4th January to 31st August 2022; we can be flexible on dates)

FINBOURNE is offering one Engineering internship to Trinity College Dublin students for 2022. This is an exciting opportunity for undergraduates to see first-hand how we build capability in our LUSID platform. Our internship is aimed at giving you exposure across our entire business. Although this is constantly evolving, the typical tasks you will be involved with range from helping to develop our APIs and build high performance and scalable distributed systems to helping us ensure everything we do is robust and reliable.

Technology you will gain exposure to includes C# (.NET Core 2.1), NUnit, Moq, PostgreSQL, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, Angular 6, Redis and possibly a bit of Python and even some Go! We will also provide training sessions to give you an overview of the Financial Services industry, Investments and Asset Management and further insight into our business and product.

How we will support you:

  • You will be working with highly experienced developers who will provide training and mentoring for you. These individuals have spent their careers at some of the most prestigious financial technology institutions and are eager to share their experience.
  • You will have a weekly meeting with your assigned mentor to receive feedback from them and to also give you the opportunity to ask additional questions off the desk.
  • You will be invited to regular knowledge sharing sessions and discussions on best practice in coding and finance.
  • Access to a network of colleagues who are happy to answer your questions and explain answers in detail.

What we’re looking for:

  • Candidates in the penultimate or year of study
  • Studying a STEM subject.
  • Candidates who are genuinely passionate and curious to continue learning, and those who are driven to solve tough technological problems and apply critical thinking to their work. Additionally, we are looking for candidates who display strong communication skills and who feel comfortable working in an informal, agile environment.
  • Ideally a genuine interest in Finance.
  • Ideally you will also have some experience programing.

We have been delighted to offer a number of internships to TCD students over the past few years. Here is what two interns had to say about their time at FINBOURNE in 2020/21:

“During my internship with FINBOURNE I had the opportunity of gaining real insight into the world of professional engineering, writing production code used by real customers. Helped by an open and collaborative company culture I was given all the support I needed to become a part of the team and start adding value from day-one. I learned a lot, and had a great time doing it.” (Martin Winchester, 2020).

“Working at FINBOURNE has enabled me to learn about and work with various leading technologies. I’ve developed some key soft skills and have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a valued member of the team. I was also impressed by the infrastructure and use of CI/CD.” (David Urdaibay, 2021).

Application Process:

Shortlisted applicants will then be sent an online technical test and will be interviewed by a cross section of the team.

Whilst FINBOURNE will not be offering accommodation as part of this internship, we are very happy to provide advice on where to find temporary accommodation in London.
