The Primary School Music Curriculum consists of three strands:

  • Listening and Responding
  • Performing and
  • Composing

DrumSteps helps to fulfil many of the aims laid down in this Curriculum.

  • The Composing strand seeks to develop the child's creativity and uniqueness, first and foremost by providing an avenue for self-expression.
  • The child selects and sequences material from the range of sound sources available. This involves the child in listening and in deciding which sources best suits the purpose and best captures the essence of what he/she wants to communicate or portray.
  • Finally the child is given the opportunities to evaluate the composing process and to record his/her work (page 7, Music Curriculum)
