BSc/Diploma in Information
Systems
Information Systems (IS) is the study of how information and communication
technologies (IT) can best be applied — in business, government
and society. Businesses need computing professionals with broad skills
and knowledge, including business and communication skills.
Unlike many IT degrees, Trinity's IS programme is aimed at established
IT staff, as well as other professionals who want to move into business
IT. Graduates of the Trinity IS Programme work in firms like Dell,
Diageo, HP, Intel, Irish Life, Microsoft and Davy Stockbrokers, as
well as almost every Government department.
The four-year flexible IS programme consists of two consecutive evening courses,
each lasting two years:
- Diploma in Information Systems
- B.Sc. (Hons) Information Systems
Diploma in Information Systems
If you are (or intend to become) an IT professional, this two-year
diploma course is for you. Upon graduating you will be equipped to
apply skills such as project management, systems development and design
and technical support in business, industry and government.
After completing the course you will:
- Be able to design, develop and implement appropriate IT solutions;
- Understand the principles, methods, tools and architectures used
in the development and management of IS and IT;
- Be aware of pressing current issues concerning the use of IT in
practice;
- Possess business, communication and IT skills, developed through
extensive practical assignments and project work.
Once you complete the two-year Diploma, the B.Sc course takes
a further two years.
B.Sc. (Hons) Information Systems
If you wish to become a senior IT professional, or make extensive
use of IT in business, then this flexible honours degree course is for you.
Upon graduating you will be equipped to manage in all sectors of the
IT industry and in a range of business functions.
The syllabus includes technologies, techniques and methods drawn from
research and internationally-accepted best practice. After completing
the course you will:
- Understand the role, application and potential of IT in business,
industry, government and society;
- Have well-developed business, communication and IT skills;
- Be able to create and develop IT policies and strategies;
- Be able to manage IS and IT operations;
- Be able to design, develop and implement appropriate IT solutions;
- Have indepth knowledge of one or more specialist IT topics that interest you.
