The Irish Machine Vision & Image Processing Conference
2004 (IMVIP 2004), was jointly hosted by the
Department of Computer Science
and the Department of Electrical and Electronic
Engineering, both in Trinity College Dublin,
Ireland. This conference brought together
theoreticians and practitioners, industrialists and academics, from the
numerous related disciplines involved in the processing
and analysis of image-based information.
IMVIP 2004 was a single-track conference consisting of high
quality previously unpublished contributed papers.
The conference emphasised both theoretical research results and practical
engineering experience in all areas. Papers were
subjected to a strict review process - on complete papers. Sixty-five papers were received and of these twenty-two were accepted for oral presentation and a further fourteen were accepted for poster presentation.
IMVIP 2004 is the eighth conference in the series. Previous
IMVIP conferences have been organised by Magee College,
University of Ulster (1997), NUI, Maynooth
(1998), Dublin City University
(1999), Queen’s University of Belfast
(2000), NUI, Maynooth (2001),
NUI,
Galway (2002 in conjunction with Opto-Ireland)
and University
of Ulster, Coleraine (2003).
The
conference was run in association with the Irish Pattern Recognition and Classification
Society (IPRCS), a member organisation of the International Association
for Pattern Recognition (IAPR).
The conference was run
from Wednesday September 1st, 2004 until Friday September 3rd, 2004.
In addition there were four short courses run preceeding the conference. These started on Tuesday August 31st, 2004 and ran until lunchtime on Wednesday September 1st, 2004.
